New School Year Will Be Like "Coming Home" For MIS Principal
Monday, August 17, 2009

"It feels like I'm going home, and that's a nice thing," reported Gwenda Rotton on learning that she will return to serve as principal of Metter Intermediate School.
Rotton, who served as MIS principal for two years, transferred to the central office in 2006 to oversee the technology program.
She will return to a number of familiar faces and a school that has made AYP for the past two years.
"We have very few new staff members, very low turnover," Rotton said. "There are a lot of very good things happening at MIS, and we're just going to continue what we're doing and strengthening those areas."
Crediting the hard work of former principal
Lesa Brown and the MIS staff, Rotton said, "Lesa and the staff worked very, very hard and made AYP for the past two years.
"Our goal is to continue that, just making sure we are teaching the standards, that we are assessing the standards and that our students are prepared with the knowledge they need to move it to the next level.
"My teachers are working hard. My students
are going to work hard to be successful,
and I'm very, very excited about parents being involved in their students' learning and achievement."
Rotton said that parent-teacher communication
is vital to the success of the students. To make that communication easier, she said, "We will be using agendas as daily communication
between home and school."
