The conference theme was "Creating a Future for ALL Georgia Students," and attendees received training and insight into ways to better serve the student populations in career and technical courses. All students at MHS will benefit because all students must earn a minimum of four career and technical courses in order to receive a diploma.
Sessions were held for MHS teachers attend GACTE conference instructors in the various course areas such as business, family and consumer science, agriculture, work based learning and JROTC.
In addition to instructors, counselors were updated on services available to students, in particular the free website GACollege411. Local business education teachers Brenda Deal and Pam Durrence received a plaque at the annual luncheon recognizing their department's Industry Certification received in May.
Two MHS instructors, LT. Col. Terry Hoyt and 1st Sgt. Hector Vasquez, presented a pull out session entitled "Why JROTC?" During their presentation, they pointed out highlights of the JROTC program at Metter High School. Participants from schools considering adding JROTC programs were encouraged to pursue this option for their students by the data and information
provided by the MHS instructors. General meetings were held during which attendees were motivated to meet the challenges of the new school year. Recent budget difficulties were highlighted and offering quality instruction in these challenging times was a major focus.
