Metter Middle School had its first Parent University parent workshop for this school year on Saturday, Sept. 19.
"The attendance and participation level was great," said Shoyle Vickers, MMS graduation counselor and event coordinator.
The importance of communication was the main focus. The speaker, Christine Stripling of Bryan County presented
an interactive presentation involving parents throughout the meeting.
Those in attendance enjoyed refreshments and fellowship with other parents immediately following the workshop. Refreshments were provided by Pauline Cody, Dona Davis, Tammie Durden and LaJauanta Phillips.Workshop coordinators Pam Smith, Lorena Collins and Vickers recognized local sponsors for supporting community youth by supporting the Parent University workshops through the donation of door prizes. Donations were made by Downtown Antiques, Bi-Lo and Final Touch auto detailing.
MMS Parent University continues to be an initiative of MMS to help bring the school and parents together in a collaborative relationship that will help improve success at the middle school level and increase the graduation rate at the high school level. Other workshops will be scheduled throughout the year and will be announced.
